• Maintaining Your Security Door - The Do's and Don'ts

Whether you live in Melbourne or any other part of the world, a security door is a must in order to keep burglars away and to protect your family and pets.

When we buy a house it automatically becomes our duty to protect everyone living inside it right from your spouse and kids to your pets. To protect our loved ones we take precautions like getting a security steel shield fixed to the entrance of our home but what if we failed to maintain this shield? Making it unable to fulfill its main purpose of protecting us we, therefore, risk the lives of everyone living in our home.

You can avoid all this by simply following the Do’s and Don’ts for maintaining your steel door allowing it to act to its full potential.

    Do's-

    1. Powder coating your steel security shield protects it from dust, scratches, scrapes and other environmental elements. Doing so will allow your security door to act better and durable for a longer period of time as well as keep you safe from burglars.

    2. Since your steel security shield is outside your house it is in direct contact with dust and moisture. Clean your security shield often to remove any dust or grime that might be caught up in the corners. You can clean it by using a damp cloth or a soft brush. You might not want to use anything harsh like a hose or a rough cloth so that you may not damage it.

    3. As time passes you might notice that your security shield might start to squeak or get had to shut when this happens you can either call an expert to service your door or you could apply some lubricant to smoothen it out. Make sure you wipe off any excess lubricant to prevent dust from gathering.

Doing these 3 important things can prevent burglars from entering your home as well as makes your steel security shield durable.

    Don'ts-

    1. Using harsh or high pressure against your steel security door can damage it, when cleaning your door never use a hose or spray water with force against your door it might ruin the surface as well as the powder coating.

    2. Never use any abrasive materials or harsh chemicals to clean your shield since it is already powder coated. If you do happen to notice any rust that is collected on your door make sure you wipe it off with a clean cloth and if it doesn’t seem to go then it is advisable to replace your old one with a new one.

    3. When cleaning your security door, make sure you don’t use an excessive amount of water as it will only cause rusting. If you have sprinklers around your house make sure none of them face your steel door and when there is a storm or if it rains you must wipe down your wet security shield with a dry and soft cloth and remove any water gathered in the corners.

Follow these rules and you will have a strong and durable steel security door that will keep burglars away and keep your loved ones safe from any harm. If you do have a busy schedule and don’t have time to do this yourself you can simply call and expect to service your security door every once in a while.
